You can still help! Our fundraising objective was to supply the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) with money to help the people of Tanzania access sustainable transportation options. Make an online contribution to continue ITDP's important work!

Contributors will receive Sustainable Transport, ITDP's annual magazine; Transport Actions, ITDP's biennial newsletter; and the satisfaction that you are sustaining the only organization dedicated solely to creating and implementing sustainable transportation policies and projects worldwide.

A big THANK YOU!!!  Our New Zealand expedition was generously funded by the Yosemite National Institutes and the Matthew Baxter Memorial Fund.

This project will enable widespread access for women to economically vital destinations such as schools, medical facilities, markets, and job sites. ITDP will first equip a group of 300 Tanzanian village women with utility bicycles, cycling skills and resources. They will document the impacts of this demonstration project on beneficiaries, communicate project results to policy makers and the public, and lobby government to adopt a national strategy to promote low-cost mobility. In past projects, ITDP has been quite successful in leveraging policy changes that favor and promote cycling. These efforts will enable the mobilization of thousands of additional women.

The project will be executed in partnership with the Association for the Advancement of Low-Cost Mobility, a Tanzanian NGO directed by Ms. Asteria L. Mlambo. ITDP also recognizes the critical role the private sector plays in sustaining the growth of cycling. As such, ITDP has strengthened its partnerships with international bicycle suppliers, and is establishing local village bike shops capable of receiving, assembling and delivering low-cost bicycles to their communities well into the future.
