You can still help! Our fundraising objective was to supply the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) with money to help the people of Tanzania access sustainable transportation options. Make an online contribution to continue ITDP's important work!

Contributors will receive Sustainable Transport, ITDP's annual magazine; Transport Actions, ITDP's biennial newsletter; and the satisfaction that you are sustaining the only organization dedicated solely to creating and implementing sustainable transportation policies and projects worldwide.

A big THANK YOU!!!  Our New Zealand expedition was generously funded by the Yosemite National Institutes and the Matthew Baxter Memorial Fund.

FUND-RASING UPDATE!!! - As of Fall, 2002 almost $5,000 has been received by ITDP to support their work in Tanzania.  This "seed money" has been crucial to get several transportation projects and lobbying efforts off the ground!  Hundreds of donated new & used bicycles are now in use, and more are on the way!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS MADE A DONATION OR HELPED WITH OUR EXPEDITION!

*** If you DO make a donation, PLEASE contact us by email so we can thank you, and track fundraising progress.  pamstutz@yni.org

Our Partner: ITDP
We have created this expedition as a fundraiser for the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). Since 1985, ITDP has worked in developing nations to promote sustainable and affordable transportation solutions for the impoverished. For thousands of households throughout Southern Africa, Asia and Latin America, ITDP’s innovative bicycle projects have enabled access to previously unreachable opportunities in the marketplace by removing the barriers to low-cost mobility. Moreover, by successfully communicating the experiences of beneficiary communities to decision-makers and the public, ITDP has leveraged significant additional support for low-cost mobility solutions from national governments and development agencies, many of which have now made cycling and walking a top priority.

In Mozambique and South Africa, successful ITDP projects have boosted the income and self-reliance of thousands of men and women through the direct provision of low-cost bicycles and training. Their projects improve the overall quality of life in many villages, and foster sustainable and equitable development of local economies. Furthermore, ITDP’s rapidly expanding “AfriBike” project in South Africa is now locally controlled and operated, demonstrating that these initiatives are indeed beneficial, and have long-term sustainability. We want to publicize this excellent work, and contribute significant funds to support it

Make A Donation

Thanks to the generous “Baxter Award” which is subsidizing our trip, all of the funds we raise will directly support ITDP’s work in Tanzanian villages. This will include the direct provision of affordable, durable bicycles and trailers, as well as training programs for new owners and bike mechanics.

Contributions are tax-deductible, and no amount is too small ($10 goes a long way in Tanzania!). Make checks payable to “ITDP,” and be sure to write “Amstutz Family/Tanzania project” on the memo line of your check. You can send them to us, directly to ITDP, or join ITDP online.
